Understanding your result

Carbohydrate is stored as glycogen in muscle and liver, and glycogen is what fuels efforts above roughly 70 percent of maximum intensity. Endurance and team-sport athletes may need 5 to 10 g per kg of body weight daily to keep those stores full; a sedentary person needs far less, and the range across individuals is genuinely enormous.

Carbohydrate is not an essential nutrient in the strict sense — the body can produce glucose from protein and fat — but very low intakes impair high-intensity performance and can affect mood and sleep in some people. The quality of the source matters too: whole grains, legumes, fruit, and vegetables bring fibre and micronutrients that refined carbohydrate does not.
